Texas Open Carry

Written by Michael Badnarik

There is a semi-famous (notorious?) restaurant in Rifle, Colorado where the waitresses carry guns, and patrons are encouraged to wear their guns when they come to eat. Lauren Boebert, owner of the SHOOTER’S GRILL, has gained national attention for her decision to encourage her staff to carry a firearm during work. The Denver Post has written an article entitled “Armed and ready to feed you”. Naturally, visiting this restaurant has been on my “bucket list” for quite some time. For those who suspect me of exaggerating, you can watch one of dozens of YouTube videos that prove I’m not making this up.

I’ve already written an article about Constitutional Carry in Texas, explaining that because I lost a bet, I am honor-bound to take my friend Heather to dinner at her favorite restaurant. I told her to pick a good one, because I’m never leaving the house without my shoulder holster after the new law goes into effect… and the unconstitutional restrictions on our right to carry cease to have credibility. But that restaurant is north of Fort Worth nearly five hours away. I want to visit restaurants in Austin where people do not reflexively dive under a table when I walk in with a gun under my arm. So this morning I decided to create a list of restaurants and other establishments in Texas that are “Second Amendment Friendly”. Not everyone with a gun is a threat to life and property. In fact – most law-abiding gun owners create a strong dis-incentive for people thinking about causing a problem.

What I’m asking everyone to do is to send me an eMail if you have found a business that is Second Amendment Friendly. I will confirm the information as best I can, and then I will post the information below. Eventually – hopefully – this post will be visited frequently by those of us who want to carry our guns while we find a place to eat. Smart businesses will realize that, rather than scaring most of their customers away, catering to Texas gun owners may very well increase business – maybe enough to compensate for the loss of business created by the Covid scare.

Please help me grow this list. Share this post with your friends so this becomes the “Second Amendment Yellow Pages”. Here is what I have so far.

When I was a boy, Tarzan movies were very popular. As always, European explorers in the jungle would panic when they heard jungle drums, a precursor to an inevitable attack by the local natives. Very similar to Pavlov's dogs hearing the dinner bell. The Lame Stream...

Constitutional Carry

My birthday is August 1st, however my birthday wish will not come true until September 1st, when "Constitutional Carry" is no longer against the law in Texas. I plan to wear my shoulder holster every day after that without fail. What IS "Constitutional Carry"? It is...
